As if we need another learning-through-sport analogy!
When a child practises shooting a basketball, they don't just find out whether the ball went through the hoop. They receive a constant stream of natural feedback. Was the shot too high or too low? Too hard or too soft? Did it catch the rim? Bounce off the backboard? Was it a good shot that just didn't quite go in, or was it nowhere close?
That rich feedback is what makes practice so effective.
Most maths EdTech gives students only one piece of information: whether their answer was right or wrong. Much less often does it help them understand how they were wrong. Was their answer too high? Too low? Very close? Or based on a completely different line of thinking? And even when that information is available, it is usually delivered in words by the software rather than noticed.
